Corrosion Control

Corrosion Control

On June 27, 2012, Rainier View Water received project approval from the Washington State Department of Health for the conversion of the treatment system for Corrosion Control for the Southwood/Sound Water System.

The existing treatment system was injecting Sodium Silicate into the system to provide a coating on the piping to protect the water from corroding the pipe and fittings. The new system will adjust the pH of the water at certain wells by adding Sodium Hydroxide at those wells, thus accomplishing the same effect on protecting the piping and fittings by making the water less corrosive.

The overall conversion process will take approximately six months and we will be sampling and assuring that adequate treatment is being accomplished throughout this time frame. During this time frame it is possible that there may be some flaking and discolored water. The Water Company will be doing flushing and trying to minimize this as much as possible. We appreciate your understanding during this process. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact our office.
